Yoga Lovin'

Yoga Lovin'

Having taken a yoga class for six weeks during my Marketing Internship, I completely fell in love with its ability to cleanse and relax the mind whilst keeping the body supple and flexible. As a keen gym goer who was used to bashing out cardio, at first I found it difficult to concentrate purely on focusing my breath throughout the classes, but I soon got into the swing of it and found myself challenging myself with new poses and routines.  My flexibility is all down to the fact that I joined my University cheerleading team in my second year. Having never been naturally flexible before I started from scratch completely. As a flyer, I was soon used to conditioning and stretching in order to improve my stunts - something which I have brought into my yoga routine in order to keep flexible despite the fact that I will soon be graduating and leaving uni behind for good (sobbing tears of sorrow at the thought...)

I downloaded an app called YogaStudio which was perfect for self teaching due to the fact that it had easy to follow video tutorials of varying difficulty levels. Having started off doing the beginner routines I soon felt confident to move onto the Intermediate ones - slipping in a 30 minute session after my cardio and abs workouts at the gym. I tend to use the flexibility workouts as they help me to pull great cheer shapes, with the occasional strength or balance vid for a bit of variation.

Here's an example of a typical routine that I would do after a workout, not only to help my muscles recover but also to relax after a strenuous session - (excuse the bare face and my post workout / coconut oil smothered hair!)

[wpvideo YGYszWww] This fabulously funky sports bra was around £18 from OnlyPlay. My neon Nike trainers were from the kids section in Sports Direct for approximately £30 (hooray for dinky feet!) and are perfect for less intense sport as they are not as padded or cushion for running or hard impact exercise. The lycra leggings are also nike - I've had them for yonks and they are so hard-wearing and last forever! The neon shorts pictured above are Nike Pros and if I could wear them 24/7 I would because they are the most comfortable things I've ever squeezed my lil' tooshy into!

Stay tuned for more yoga and fitness posts soon!
